Chef Jess

A team of registered dietitians and chefs, Chef Jess has aimed to make leading a healthy lifestyle both easy and enjoyable since 2011. In addition to at-home meal delivery, the team offers extensive nutrition counseling to individuals and organizations in the greater Washington DC area. 

Challenges pre-Sprwt

Before Sprwt, their day-to-day operations were primarily manual, and involved many different systems working separately. Although owner Jen Caroll had hesitations about signing on with Sprwt, she was taken aback by the immediate switch of their daily work from manual to automatic. Having customer information and orders in the same database as all of their other data proved to be transformative. The team at Chef Jess especially savors the automatic labelling feature. Before, they were using an entirely separate system to save and print out labels one-by-one. Now, labels are automatically generated according to the order and with each customer’s name on it, giving her business an even more professional appearance.

Working with Sprwt

Chef Jess didn’t simply adopt the Sprwt software and learn the system on their own; rather, they know they can be frequently in touch with the Sprwt team to make the most out of their experience. On a daily basis, Jen is grateful that the Sprwt team is willing and able to address and resolve customer complaints in a timely manner. When one of her customers suddenly could not access her purchased gift certificate – a popular feature permitted by Sprwt – the Sprwt team responded to Chef Jess in minutes and swiftly restored the frustrated customer’s access. Sprwt understands that no software is perfect, and our team is therefore always available to troubleshoot.

COVID-19 Donations

When Jen pondered how Chef Jess could leverage their resources to contribute to COVID-19 relief efforts, she was extremely grateful for how quickly Sprwt fulfilled her request for a donation page. Sprwt is constantly modifying and expanding their platform to best fit client needs, and to help clients be the best companies they can be. When a client wants to give back in some way, there are no second questions.

Sprwt quickly worked to help Chef Jess create a donation page on their website for essential workers, allowing their customers to donate a desired amount of money. Additionally, to ensure that making donations are maximally accessible, there is an option to select a donation when adding meals to your cart. The impact so far has been astounding. They’ve sent donations to three different hospitals, as well as to Restaurant Depot and Giant Food, where many workers fall below the poverty line due to their annual pay. With their steady and enthusiastic customer support, Chef Jess is already feeding 200 families at the YWCA, just delivered 155 meals to a hospital last week, and has 160 meals to deliver for a hospital next week. And, the team plans to deliver meals to the Ronald McDonald House in DC on a recurring basis, as more families occupy space there with the increasing COVID-19 hospitalizations.

A Permanent Change

Chef Jess has decided that this isn’t a temporary month of donations, either. Realizing how easy it is to leverage customer support for community impact, Jen is eager to make this donation option a permanent and prominent part of their business’s mission. Sprwt is on board, too, and is eager to see how Chef Jess transforms lives – all because of a simple functional change.
